How to Protect Your Energy

Let’s talk energetic sensitivity. This is for you empathic, open-hearted, loving people!

You know the feeling of walking into a room and feeling the vibes immediately?

Or hanging out with someone and feeling completely drained afterward?

What’s happening?

Our body is a sensitive listening system.

The ripples of the water in our body, our atoms buzzing, our mental formations making connections (whether they or ‘true’ or not), interacting and sensing the frequencies of the world around us.

When we are open-hearted, if we are not aware of our own energetic field around us, it opens us up to be susceptible to other energies getting in, often making us feel denser and drained.

As a result, many of us close-in our energies, bringing our light inward and smaller, building walls around our heart, or even a wall of fire (anger and frustration!) that comes out through our reactions and resentments.

Would you rather have a hard wall around your heart, or something softer yet still safe?

Imagine what it would be like to shine your light, without people taking advantage, without yourself feeling closing in, and still being able to connect with the beautiful world around you.

Here are 4 core competencies, in order, to protect your energy, using visualization and nervous system awareness:

1. Can you feel your energetic field around you? Ground your feet, then take a nice relaxed breath into your heart. When you expand that breath, can you sense, either in your airy-atmosphere or visualize in your mind’s eye, a clear orb around your body and where its edges are? How big can it go? No judgement, just simplicity, softness. Try this by yourself at home first, and then try with a friend, and then quietly in public or group settings.

2. When you feel your energetic field, can you fill it with light? Our minds have immense power, sending signals throughout our nervous system. Our hearts, have an electromagnetic field that’s measured at least 5,000x stronger than the brain. Using the combination of the mind, the heart, your spirit and body, visualize a soft, expanding and glittering light in your field (I personally imagine white, rainbow and/or gold; yours might be different). It may be subtle, but can you feel the shimmers?

3. Intend to protect. Once again, using the mind, simply intend for your field to be protected. This will send signals to your nervous system that you are safe, that all is divine, and that you have sovereign choice to do whatever you need to do in that moment, acting from a place of compassion.

4. Now, can you feel how the energies around you butt up against your field? Which energies feel safe and loving to interact with? Which energies can you acknowledge, with non-judgemental acceptance, but choose not to let them in (energetically speaking)? Can you distinguish between your field and theirs? Can you let go of anything that’s not yours? How much were you able to maintain your orb of light without closing the world off?

In day-to-day situations, it will get easier (I promise!), but it must be said that sometimes we feel like we are in an ongoing situation that is hard to constantly protect against. As a result, we may put up walls or feel like we are compromising our authentic self or truth. I see you, I’ve been there, and some situations are more challenging to navigate than others.

The most I can say is to continue to express your boundaries and truth, from the heart, with loving kindness, intending to reduce stressed-out reactions from the nervous system (at the very least for your own wellbeing), and settling into your softness. Once you intend to protect, and that you deserve better, trust the divine unfolding to show you the way.
